SVLK explained: how Indonesia verifies legal timber
5 October 2026 · 6 min read
SVLK stands for Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu, the Indonesian Timber Legality Assurance System. It is a mandatory national framework that checks timber is legally harvested, processed and traded at every step, from the forest concession to the export port.
What SVLK covers
Forest concessions, sawmills, manufacturers and exporters are each audited by independent, accredited bodies. Only companies that pass can trade certified timber. Each export shipment is then issued with a legality document that links the cargo to its verified supply chain.
Why buyers care
Many importing countries have laws that make the buyer responsible for ensuring timber is legal. These include due diligence rules in Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and others. SVLK documentation is widely recognised as strong evidence for that due diligence.
What you receive from us
Every Borneo Woods Indonesia shipment includes SVLK documentation together with the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. If your customs broker or certification body needs additional records, tell us before shipment and we will prepare them with the export file.
